Improving Student Attendance: Effective Prevention/Intervention Strategies Dealing with Chronic Absenteeism in a Post-COVID World Roundtable

Creative strategies for connecting with and engaging students is an important key to addressing chronic absenteeism, especially now, in a post-COVID world.

Creative strategies for connecting with and engaging students and families is an important key to addressing chronic absenteeism, especially now, in a post-COVID world. We are faced with developing strategies for re-engaging students that have been out of the school environment for over one year. During the workshop and roundtable discussions, we will discuss proven prevention/intervention strategies being utilized by school districts around New York State, as well as discussing the importance of developing relationships with families. Participants will be encouraged to share their strategies with the group. This series is intended for Superintendents, Building Administrators, School Counselors, School Social Workers, Attendance Teachers, MTSS Coordinators, School Psychologists, McKinney Vento Liaisons, etc. The facilitator, David Torres, served 28 years as the Saratoga Springs City School District's Supervisor of Attendance K-12 before retiring in 2018 and is currently in his second year as the Community Outreach Liaison at the Corinth Central School District.
